Ever wondered what actually happened and why, when sometimes that great looking piece of meat comes off your grill and it's perfect, but, other times it's just not so good? If so, this hands-on class is for you!
When it comes to meat, a satisfactory eating experience is directly related to the tenderness, juiciness, and flavor of the cooked product. In this program OSU Extension will provide you, the consumer, hands on education in order to maximize palatability and food safety of various cuts of meat during the preparation and cooking process while using a grill for cooking outdoors.
During this class you will learn why some cuts of meat are better than others for grilling, and the best ways to optimize the eating experience by gaining an understanding of proper heat control and timing. Participants will gain hands on experience on both charcoal and gas grills.
The target audience ranges from older teens through senior citizens. If you are your family's grill master, then this class is for you! In fact, since we'll be working at the grills in small groups of four, feel free to enroll the entire family.
To date we've hosted two Grill Smart sessions, and we're planning to host the next two on May 31, 2019. Classes are limited to 16 participants. Total cost is $20 per participant for this three and a half hour experience, and that includes the meat and all class materials.
