We Can Help You With Soil Testing
Soil Testing is Once Again Offered Through the Local OSU Extension Office
Many of you will recall when the Research and Extension Analytical Laboratory (REAL-LAB) run by The Ohio State University was closed in December 1998. Since that time, we have not offered any form of soil testing services through our office.
Today, that's changed. As the result of a partnership recently formed between the University of Kentucky Soil Testing Laboratory and Ohio State University Extension offices in Fairfield and Hocking Counties, we can once again work with clientele to service all soil testing needs.
We will provide the soil bags, input forms and instructions through our local Fairfield or Hocking County OSU Extension offices to those interested in having their soil analyzed. A 'basic' analysis, which includes P, K, Ca, Mg, Zn, pH and buffer pH, will cost $4 per sample if individuals assume the responsibility for packaging and mailing their own samples. If preferred, for $10 per sample, we will assume the responsibility for processing and mailing the samples from the Extension office. Additional tests such as organic matter or trace elements are available for additional fees.
Upon receipt of the soil analysis, local OSU Extension office staff will work with individuals to develop soil nutrient recommendations based on the results of their soil tests. Sample bags, input forms, mailing boxes for submitting multiple samples, and coding instructions may be received by contacting our office at: 740.653.5419. Those wishing to see additional tests which are available and their costs may visit http://soils.rs.uky.edu/tests/index.php or call our office.
