December 2006 – Personal Finance tips
You have more options and flexibility this year for choosing how to receive your 2006 federal income tax refund.
- Split your direct deposit refund among two or three different accounts.
- Direct deposit your refund into a single account.
- Receive your refund in a paper check.
Splitting your refund is easy. Use IRS’s new form 8888, Direct Deposit of Refund. Complete the form and attach to completed federal income tax return. Remember to tell the IRS how much and which of your accounts you want your refund deposited.
Yes, you can choose different U.S. financial institutions as long as they accept direct deposit to your account. Filing electronically or on paper you allows you to split your refund too.
If you use a tax professional to prepare your return, ask if they charge for this additional form. For more information go to IRS.gov.
